The Early Pregnancy Lab is based at BC Women’s Hospital and focuses on early pregnancy and related clinical problems, with an emphasis on recurrent pregnancy loss.
Early pregnancy, defined as the first 20 weeks of gestation, involves key developmental processes necessary for establishing a viable pregnancy. Pregnancy loss during this period can interrupt these processes and is associated with significant reproductive implications. Recurrent pregnancy loss is typically defined as two or more pregnancy losses before 20 weeks’ gestation. It can result from a variety of genetic, anatomical, and medical factors; however, in approximately 50% of cases, no specific cause is identified.
